The O level is a subject-based study conferred as a part of the General Certificate of Education. It was introduced in 1951. O Levels exams are the international UK equivalent to our local Matric board exams. They are basically held by CIE (Cambridge International Examination), Pearson Edexcel Boards, and administered in PAK through British Council. The O Levels studies are preferred by all abroad universities for undergraduate admissions. O Levels stands for “Ordinary level”. It is taken by 16 years old typically after 2 years of studies. After O Levels you usually do A-Levels.
Subjects of O Level
There are almost 40 subjects in O level exams provided by CIE. Which consists of both compulsory and optional subjects. English, Urdu, Pak Studies, Islamiyat, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects except them all others are optional. Students can study as many optional subjects as they want.
Exams of O Level
The exams held twice per year:
1: Summer session held throughout May and June.
2: Winter session held throughout October and November.
IGCSE
IGCSE is an abbreviation of the International General Education of Secondary Education. It is equivalent to O Levels, UK GCSE. Well O Levels more popular in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and in few more countries, on the other hand, IGCSE is popular in European countries. 95% syllabus of IGCSE is the same as O Levels. But the pattern of exams is completely different.
Subject of IGCSE
In IGCSE there are almost 70 subjects. Students have to choose a minimum of 5 of them or a maximum of 14 out of 70. English, Math, and Sciences are compulsory while other subjects are optional. The student is awarded one IGCSE certificate per subject.
A-Levels
A-Levels is a subject-based qualification. are the international UK equivalent to our local Intermediate board exams. They are basically held by CIE (Cambridge International Examination), Pearson Edexcel Boards, and administered in PAK through British Council. A-Levels stands for “Advance level”. It was first introduced in England and Wales in 1951 to replace a higher school certificate. A-Levels are generally worked for over 2 years. It is taken typically after O Levels studies.
SUBJECTS of A Level
A-Levels have no specific subject requirement. Usually, students choose their subjects based on their courses. In A-Levels, they have the opportunity to combine any subjects they want.
